NFL Draft 101: What are the Cincinnati Bengals team needs?

This is a tough one to ferret out. The Bengals still have 10 unrestricted free agents at multiple positions, so needs could change due to who they can resign, and who they want to resign.

So far in free agency they have added WR Matt Jones, and Antonio Bryant and Corners Keiwan Ratliff and Antonio Smith. That suitably covers their needs for wide outs and help at the Cornerback position.

Now their primary need may be at TE. This is an offense that likes to spread the field, and adding a pass catching TE could be the best way to accomplish just that. This has been a need for sometime now and may be time to address it with a high draft pick.

Given that, they do have 2009 third round pick Chase Coffman who missed the 2009 season with an injury. If they are sold on him being the pass catching, pass blocking TE this offense needs, then their only primary need is at safety.

This position is a huge hole on an otherwise solid club. Roy Williams didn’t make it through the 2009 season, and is one of the UFA mentioned above. Chris Crocker was limited down the stretch. There other need is at OG as Bobbie Williams will be 34 this September.

Those seem to be the primary needs of this club, and the biggest secondary need is kicker. Shayne Graham was 23-30 in the regular season and playoffs. He missed a 35 yard and 28 yard field goal attempt in the playoff loss to the New York Jets.

Given that, and the fact that they slapped the franchise tag on him after the 2008 season, it seems likely this team will look for a new option there in the middle to late rounds of the 2010 NFL Draft.

williams signed. but having missed much of the last three seasons with that forearm, isn't likely a longterm solution.
