NFL Draft 101: What are the 2010 NFL team needs?

As we head towards free agency, and the NFL draft it seems time to look at what each NFL team needs to address in either on of those two places. In the coming weeks, all the NFL writers from Examiner.com will be taking a look at what each NFL team needs.

  2010 NFL Team needs

Rams needs heading into 2010

The work is just beginning on what the 2010 St. Louis Rams are going to look like.  Steve Spagnuolo, Billy Devaney, Kevin Demoff and a slew of other coaches and scouts are beginning to go over their lists and figure out what they would like the roster to look like in 2010.  One of the bigger questions that is going to hang over the Rams and the entire NFL this offseason is will there be a salary cap or not?  That will not only effect how much the Rams might want to spend but which players will be available or not with free agency.

Lions needs heading into 2010

2009 was the first step in what is a monumental rebuilding process. When you are trying to salvage a team that went 0-16, it takes a lot of hard work, and a ton of prudent free agent signings and draft picks. All in all, the Lions did a good job in the 2009 offseason, finding players such as Matthew Stafford, Louis Delmas, DeAndre Levy, and Brandon Pettigrew who figure to be in Detroit for quite some time. However, there are still several more needs out there the Lions must address.

Buccaneers team needs heading into 2010

The question becomes what does a 3-13 team need? Most would say everything but in this case that is not entirely accurate. The Bucs have their QB, the reemergence of TE Kellen Winslow will help Joshua Freeman’s development, but it seems the Buccaneers primary needs lie on the defensive side of the ball.

Redskins needs heading into 2010

The Washington Redskins head into the offseason with a new general manager and a new coach. The exit of the reviled Vinny Cerrato, the hiring of a real general manager in Bruce Allen, and proven coach Mike Shanahan has Redskins fans feeling better after a dreadful 2009 season.

Chiefs needs heading into the 2010 draft

When a team has only won 10 regular season games in three seasons, you can bet there are more holes in the roster than a wheel of Swiss cheese. The Kansas City Chiefs are no different. With the exception of quarterback, placekicker and punter, there isn't a position on the team that couldn't use a potential upgrade.

Looking forward: Seahawks needs for 2010

In the midst of a 9-23 stretch over the last two seasons, the Seahawks "need" list has gone from the usual one or two key positions to a myriad of different wish lists that cover everything from the offensive line and running back position to the secondary and defensive end spots.

Cleveland Browns needs heading into 2010

There is a universal rule in football, new regimes equal new starting QB’s. For Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn this seems to mean that their time in the brown and orange is at an end.

Oakland Raiders: Top offseason priorities

The Oakland Raiders enter the 2010 offseason with questions hanging over the franchise. Anytime a team his a rut the way the Raiders have done over these last several years, its a time for a top to bottom review of everything. However, this is the Oakland Raiders and the owner is also the general manager, head of scouting, and rumored coach it puts a new face on the coming makeover.

Buffalo Bills needs heading into 2010

The Buffalo Bills have a new General Manager, and a new head coach. The universal rule in football is new regimes equal new quarterbacks, but it is not like Ryan Fitzpatrick or Trent Edwards is stepping up making a convincing argument that either of them can adequately run the Bills offense.

Chicago Bears needs heading into 2010

What the Chicago Bears could use most is a couple of draft picks in the first and second rounds. 2010 will mark the second straight year in which their first pick will come via the third round. That is due to questionable trades made, that got their Director of Pro Personnel fired.

Jaguars needs heading into 2010

The Jacksonville Jaguars needs heading into 2010 can be split into two distinct categories. In the first category are the players they could get to help the product on the field which may help ticket sales. The second category is labeled Tim Tebow and the box office draw he would bring to his home town team.

Dolphins needs heading into 2010

According to Pro Football Reference the Miami Dolphins scored 360 points in 2009, but gave up 390, that seems to suggest that their primary needs lie on the defensive side of the ball.

What are the 49ers team needs in 2010?

There has been some rumblings about the San Francisco 49ers switching from the 3-4 defense to a 4-3 defense. This potential switch could alter their needs in 2010, but the most glaring one is the holes in the defensive secondary.

What are the Denver Broncos needs heading into 2010?

The Denver Broncos found themselves on the wrong side of two four game losing skids after their bye week in 2009. We shouldn’t say that they are in a rebuild mode, especially considering they swapped out 34 players in 2009, but there is some work to be done.

Giants needs heading into 2010

This is a tough one to figure out. The Giants have needs that mostly lie on the defense, but given the age of their offensive line OL depth may be considered the biggest weakness. We also cannot discount the lack of the 1,000 yard rusher on the 2009 version of this team.

What are the Carolina Panthers needs heading into 2010?

For the second year in a row the Carolina Panthers do not have a first round draft pick. They traded it away at the 2009 Draft o move up in the second round and select Everette Brown. At this point it feels safe to say that they overpaid for that selection, and once a team starts’ dealing away draft picks they can get themselves into real trouble. For example the Chicago Bears.

NFL Draft 101: What are the Tennessee Titans needs in 2010?

The Titans defense took a big step back in 2009. They have an energetic young offense built around RB Chris Johnson, they hope that QB Vince Young will be able to effectively manage it in 2010, and all indications are that he can, that leaves the team open to rebuild a defense that not only took a big step backwards, but is aging.

What are the needs of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010?

Recent events and free agency might dramatically change what the Steelers do in the 2010 NFL Draft. They do not appear to be a team with glaring needs, but could use a few playmakers in the defensive secondary, and could start a youth movement along their offensive and defensvie lines.

What are the 2010 Atlanta Falcons team needs?

With just 28 sacks, and 15 interceptions it seemed the biggest needs on this team was in the defensive secondary and along the defensive line. That was true until the Falcons landed Dunta Robinson and Matt Giordano in free agency. Now the Falcons must work on their pass rush.

What are the Houston Texans needs heading into 2010?

The Houston Texans stat line from 2009 suggest that it is that time for the Texans to spend their first round draft pick on a top level running back. They ranked 30th in rushing yards per game with 92.2, and 31st in yards per carry.

What are the Cincinnati Bengals team needs?

This is a tough one to ferret out. The Bengals still have 10 unrestricted free agents at multiple positions, so needs could change due to who they can resign, and who they want to resign.

What are New England Patriots team needs heading into 2010?

There seems little doubt the New England Patriots have to fix the defensive front seven. They need depth at the NT position, they need t o find a replacement for Richard Seymour, and they need to fix a pass rush, and improve the run defense.

What are the Green Bay Packers team needs heading into 2010?

It seems there is one prevailing need for this team, and that is to rebuild the offensive line to protect QB Aaron Rodgers better. This team gave up 51 sacks in the regular season in2009, and five more in the playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals a team that had little to no pass rush for the outside edge.

What are the Philadelphia Eagles team needs in 2010?

The Philadelphia Eagles feel like a team in transition. They window of opportunity to win with QB Donovan McNabb has closed, and this team will move on with young QB Kevin Kolb. While that is a big change, it does not necessarily affect what the team needs to win. They may need to pick up another back up QB type, but essentially their needs remain the same.

What are the Baltimore Ravens team needs heading into 2010?

It seemed that the number one need of this team heading into 2010 was at WR, but after the signing of Donte Stallworth and the trade for Anquan Boldin we can hardly say that anymore. They feel like a team that still needs another WR option, but that will now become a secondary need.

What are the needs of the Arizona Cardinals heading into 2010?

It always surprises me how fast Championship caliber sports teams can fall apart. It wasn’t that long ago that the Cardinals were in the Super Bowl, now the feel like thy have slipped back to the mediocrity that has plagued this team throughout its long history.

What are the Dallas Cowboys needs heading into 2010?

It is somewhat hard to ranks the Dallas Cowboys needs. They have several areas that are concerning, but some of that is not immediate. They could use a new starter at LT given the release of Flozell Adams, and that seems to be the area of most concern.

What are the San Diego Chargers team needs heading into 2010?

The LT era of the San Diego Chargers is over and the shots RB all the way to the top of their primary needs. They need a back to pair with Darren Sproles. What kind of back seems to be the question, but RB is their primary need without a doubt.

What are the New York Jets team needs heading into 2010?

At the end of the 2009 season the New York Jets felt like a team that was pretty close to contending for a Super Bowl. During this off season, they have added a lot of pieces. They hope those pieces get them to the Super Bowl.

What are the Minnesota Vikings needs heading into 2010?

The Minnesota Vikings are going to have to prepare for the day when Brett Favre actually retires, and means it. That day will most likely not come in 2010 but they need to prepare themselves for that eventuality. With the 20th pick in the first round, it seems like a perfect opportunity to take a young QB let him mentor under Favre and Tavaris Jackson and see what is what down the road.

What are the needs of the Indianapolis Colts heading into the 2010 season?

We can sum up a lot of the Indianapolis Colts needs with three words Interior Offensive Lineman. The Colts could use better options at OT, OG, and a younger option at Center since Jeff Saturday isn’t getting any younger.

What are the needs of the New Orleans Saints heading into the 2010 season?

What does a team coming off a Super Bowl really need? It seems there are two glaring needs one at OLB, and because of free agency at both safety positions. Those are the two or three primary needs of this team.
