NFL Draft 101: What are the 2010 Atlanta Falcons team needs?

With just 28 sacks, and 15 interceptions it seemed the biggest needs on this team was in the defensive secondary and along the defensive line. That was true until the Falcons landed Dunta Robinson and Matt Giordano in free agency. Now the Falcons must work on their pass rush.

While last year’s first round draft pick, DT Peria Jerry, looks to rebound and contribute in 2010, the Falcons still have a very deep need at Defensive End. John Abraham will be 32, and former first round pick Jamaal Anderson hasn’t made a huge impact. That seems to make DE their highest position of need.

Since weak side Linebacker Mike Peterson is 34 years old, we can count OLB as another primary need. Expect the Falcons to address that need in the second round of the 2010 draft.

Heading the list of secondary needs, the Falcons could use some tinkering on their offensive line. Adding a few young prospects in later rounds of the draft is always a solid move, and I expect the Falcons to do just that.

Another secondary need could be some more offensive weapons. The Falcons have a great QB in Matt Ryan and surrounding him with talented receivers and backs is always good strategy. If a talented receiver were available in the third or forth rounds I would urge the team to select them.

Defensive tackle depth is always a concern on any team, but with the return of Jerry and the signing of Dan Klecko, it does not seem like the Falcons need to address this any further.
