The NFL has put a huge banner of Joe Flacco on Sports Authority Field and fans are outraged.
Fans are outraged that the NFL would have the audacity to come into Denver and plaster a huge image of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco and put it on Sports Authority Field. They also put posters of the Ravens quarterback all over the 16th Street Mall downtown to get ready for the opening NFL game here in Denver.
One fan here in Denver has even petitioned the league in order to have the giant poster removed from the Broncos stadium. The Denver fan who goes by the handle “Broncos Nation” launched the petition on Change.org. The fan is requesting that the NFL remove the banner of Flacco from the outside of the South stands.
The NFL says the banner is being used to promote the kick-off of the NFL season and a scheduling conflict with the Baltimore Orioles kept the game from being played in the Super Bowl Champions home stadium in Baltimore.
The last time Denver fans saw Flacco was when he was rallying the Ravens to a dramatic come from behind double-overtime playoff win over the Broncos here in Denver on January 12. Bronco fans still have bad memories from that playoff loss.
Seeing Joe Flacco’s image with the Ravens logo bigger than life on their own stadium and plastering it all over Denver is a bit too much for many fans to stomach. Maybe this will ignite the fans to make more noise than ever next Thursday night Sept 5 for the big rematch game. It could also create a passion in the Broncos to beat the Ravens on opening night in front of 26 million people on national TV.
