NFL coaching rumors update: Mora to Chargers; Gruden, Holmgren comebacks?

Is Jim Mora heading to the San Diego Chargers? According to the Jan. 8 Los Angeles Times, the Chargers have contacted the current UCLA football coach about their head-coaching vacancy.

Mora led UCLA to a 9-5 in his first season as coach, but will the temptation of having a shot to coach in the NFL draw his attention? Mora has had success as a head coach with the Atlanta Falcons and plenty of experience with several other teams, including the San Francisco 49ers.

Mora has previously worked for the Chargers organization. He coached the defensive backs from 1985-1991.

Jim Mora may not be leaving the State of California, but he may be switching jobs!

In other NFL coaching rumors, the Gruden brothers are a hot topic.

With several rumors having former Super Bowl winning coach Jon Gruden going to Cleveland, Chicago or Philly, (depending on what day it is) the Monday Night Football analyst insists he is fine right where he is.

That's not the case with brother Jay.

Jay Gruden, the current offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals has peaked the interest of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Another former Super Bowl winning coach, Mike Holmgren has been reportedly drawing interest from the Chargers and Eagles. The coaching rumor merry-go-round is only going to speed up over the next few weeks as several teams still have no skipper in charge.

It will get interesting the closer we get to the Super Bowl though, especially when it comes to draft picks and available free agents. A free agent may not want to go to a team that has no head coach in place.
