According to the Huffington Post on Oct. 11, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson left Vikings practice on Thursday, Oct. 10 to go to South Dakota because of a personal family tragedy. It was later confirmed that his 2-year-old son was in critical condition because of injuries sustained because of child abuse.
The boy was rushed to the hospital Wednesday evening. It was later determined that he suffered brain injuries as a result of being violently shaken. It is a tragedy that he is not expected to survive his serious injuries. The plan is to take him off a ventilator and donate his organs.
According to a Sioux Falls, South Dakota newspaper, police arrested Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, on Wednesday night on charges of aggravated assault and battery against an infant. Patterson is being held on a $750,000 cash bond and must appear in court on Friday.
Even though Peterson missed practice on Thursday, he said he is certain he will play in the game against Carolina on Sunday. He said, ''I'll be ready to roll, I'm focused. Football is something I will always fall back on. It gets me through tough times. Just being around the guys in here, that's what I need.''
