The San Francisco 49ers are making new moves in the off season, and one of those moves might be a new contract for Colin Kaepernick. On March 3, CBS Sports reported that the 49ers quarterback is seeking a new contract worth $18 million dollars a year.

Kaepernick led the team to back to back championship games and a Super Bowl appearance. He just finished his third season. He is set to make $973,766 in 2014. Kaepernick and the 49ers have started discussions about a new deal. The former second round pick is looking for pay around the same as Dree Brees, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, and Peyton Manning.

Even without a new contract, Kaepernick will stay next season. Niners Nation reported the following on the talks happening between Kaepernick and the 49ers:

"If the 49ers don't get in Kaepernick's range, the quarterback would be willing to play the 2014 season at his base salary of $973,766 and postpone negotiations until next offseason instead of signing a below-market deal."

Some would think this would be a foolish move , but it could work for Kaepernick. Joe Flacco finished out his rookie deal with a Super Bowl win, and then he signed a huge contract. CBS reported that even a hypothetical two year deal of $16.5 million per year or $33M for two years wouldn't work.

Is Kaepernick worth 18 million? Last season, he was ranked at the bottom of the top 10 quarterbacks with a completion percentage of 58.4% . Under pressure, his completion percentage drops to 43.6% His accuracy percentage also drops to 55.1%. This ranks him last among all NFL starters.

This doesn't mean Kaepernick not worth the new amount, but the real question is if the 49ers will be the team to pay him that amount? What do you think? Do you think the 49ers will give Kaepernick what he wants?
