NFL fans can now buy tickets for the NFC championship game between the San Francisco 49ers (12-4-1) and the Atlanta Falcons (14-3) in the Georgia Dome. The NFC title game will take place on Sunday, Jan. 20 in Atlanta at 3:00 p.m. local time, and fans can purchase tickets on retailer sites such as TicketLiquidator.
The winner will advance to Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3 against either the New England Patriots or the Baltimore Ravens. The 47th Super Bowl will be held at the Superdome in New Orleans, La. You can watch the NFC championship preview in this CBS Sports video.
The 49ers opened the betting spread as (-3.5) favorites over the Falcons given that Atlanta nearly blew a 20-point halftime lead in the divisional round against the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 13. Matt Ryan, Roddy White and company needed a last-second field goal to lift their team 30-28 against the Russell Wilson-led Seahawks.
The Falcons almost became the second team in NFL history to lose a playoff game after leading by 20 points. (The Buffalo Bills did it against the Houston Oilers in the AFC championship game in 1992.) On Saturday, the 49ers routed Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers 45-31 behind second year quarterback Colin Kaepernick's record-setting performance.
How will San Francisco's second-ranked defense fare against a potent Atlanta offense? Seattle had the league's top-ranked defense but ultimately surrendered 30 points to Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White, Michael Turner, Julio Jones, and the rest of the Falcons offense. On the other side of the ball, the 49ers fate rests on Kaepernick's shoulders in the team's quest for its sixth Super Bowl title.
On the outside, Michael Crabtree has not gotten much receiver help from Randy Moss or Ted Ginn. Vernon Davis has been inconsistent all year. Crabtree, Kaepernick, and running back Frank Gore will have to deliver big time on the road.
