Neyo on new album, balancing, and why he doesn't co-write
The singer/songwriter Neyo has had a hectic year with the release of his new album ‘R.E.D’, his new profound A&R position over at the legendary Motown Records, while also fulfilling never ending role of being a father. The Hollywood Reporter had the opportunity to chat with the 'Year of the Gentlemen' singer to discuss why he initially named the album The Cracks in Mr. Perfect, which was in his words,
“an excuse for me to complain about the woes of being a celebrity.”
He also speaks on balancing his many job duties as senior VP of A&R, actor, producer, songwriter, singer, and father in which he responds by saying
“If not for the people around me I wouldn’t be balancing it as well as I am.”
Last but certainly not least, Neyo shares on why he chooses not to co-write on his albums. For the singer it never made sense to him to have another songwriter, write about his own personal feelings and experiences.
Neyo is definitely ahead of his time. It seems like yesterday, when the world was first introduced to Neyo the singer. Since the release of his first album “In My Own Words” the 33 year old has quickly revolutionized from songwriter-singer- to now father and there is no doubt this gentleman will aim towards the sky of no limits.
