Arguably the most sought after player in the world right now is 21-year-old Brazilian superstar Neymar. With a combination of speed, skill, and unlimited potential, Neymar has already proven to be one of the world’s best players and was even a selected among the final 30 in this year’s Balon d’Or voting. While the youngster hasn’t committed to leaving his hometown club Santos FC in Brazil, he has yet to commit to them through a long-term deal, which has speculation of a possible summer transfer move at an all time high.
Neymar has said in the past that he wouldn’t leave Santos until after the 2014 World Cup to be played in Brazil, but a recent comment by Barcelona defender and fellow Brazilian Dani Alves that the team had reached a deal with the prodigy has put the football world on high alert. However, despite claims, Neymar continues to deny such happenings and told Lance Newspaper recently:
“It is the talk of those who do not know my life. I have already said, if the time feels right, the best, then why not? It’s my thing, no one else has a part of it.”
There are many people, fans and players, who believe that Neymar should leave now in order to maximize pay out, and get an early start at a big club in order to gain experience and fulfill his potential earlier, but as he has explained in the past, he does not want to make the jump before he is 100 percent ready. Physically, there have always been questions about Neymar with his extremely thin stature, and many question if he could hold up for an entire season in a top tier league. His potential and football ability however, are unquestioned, which is the reason for many of the top clubs including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich pursuing him.
As Neymar continues to deny summer transfer moves from Santos, world football fans continue to moan. At a club like Santos, the only time fans get to see the star in action is on the international stage. Fans want to see a player of Neymar’s stature every week and competing against the worlds best in Champions League and while his move to a big European club is undoubtedly inevitable, the question remains, “When?”
