Nexus 10 2 release date rumors: Did Google delay or cancel the 2nd gen tablet?

Already dubbed the Nexus 10 2, rumors and speculation about the release date of the 2nd generation device continue to swirl. When the first generation Nexus 10 tablet was reported as sold out of Google Play weeks ago, anticipation of the arrival of the Nexus 10 2 continues. After release date rumors slated the device for Black Friday 2013 and later CES 2014, the Nexus 10 2 is still a no-show. It remains unclear whether Google is delaying or cancelling the Nexus 10 2 release.

According to IBTimes (Feb. 3), the first generation 32GB version of the Nexus 10 made a brief reappearance in the Google Play Store. The popular Android tablet appears to have sold out again, sparking further curiosity about the whereabouts of the Nexus 10 2.

To date, Google has neither confirmed or denied the 2nd generation Nexus 10 tablet’s existence and new reports suggest that the entire Nexus line will be discontinued. According to tech industry analyst Edgar Murtazin, Google plans to replace the Nexus series with its Play Edition line. “Nexus line by Google is over in 2015 ;) Yes - this line will be replaced by Play Edition,” Murtazin tweeted.

If this turns out to be true, it doesn't completely rule out the possibility of seeing another Nexus device or two from Google in 2014. An image posted by known Twitter tipster @evleaks late last year indicates that an ASUS manufactured Nexus 10-inch tablet was in the works.

Rumored specs of the Nexus 10 2 include a display resolution of 2560 x 1600, pixel density of 300ppi, an 8MP rear camera, a 2.1MP front camera and 32GB of internal storage. Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, an Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM, Android KitKat 4.4 are expected, all powered by a 9000 mAh battery.

Seeking to move forward with technology innovation, the search engine giant just signed a 10-year patent cross- licensing deal with Samsung. Google also recently announced that it’s selling Motorola Mobility to Lenovo reveals intentions of focusing on Android development. Prospective buyers of the 2nd generation Nexus 10 tablet will have to be patient, as Google has much on its plate at the moment.
