It is a common dream and ambition for a young person to want to be a performer. Whether that means being a singer, dancer, or in this case, a rapper. Many people dream of breaking into the highly criticized hip hop game, but few actually carry the authentic talent that is required.
Recently, a masked gentleman by the name of Sweet Da Kid glimmers with this prospective talent after releasing simply one video to the public. The song is called “Don’t Forget The Name” and the video can be seen above. When asked why Sweet named the track “Don’t Forget The Name” he stated,
BECAUSE THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING. DONT SAY I DIDNT WARN YA..
Da Kid is from Camden, New Jersey across the bridge from Philly. How did he he get into the rap game?
BEEN RHYMING AND WRITING FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER..I GREW UP WITH A COUPLE MC's, AND KNEW FROM A YUNG AGE THIS WAS WHAT I WANTED TO DO.
Despite his East Coast roots, Sweet’s sound is, as he describes it,
TRILL, ITS GOT A SOUTHERN BOUNCE TOO IT.
Sweets flow and voice is what makes the song more reminiscent of the south. Especially how he says ‘normalaaay’ in his first verse.
Along with Da Kid’s impeccable flow, the beat is what makes the song even more dope. The beat was produced by 5StarBeatz and as Sweet puts it
5STARBEATS KILLED THE PRODUCTION ON THIS ONE.
The song at all angles is star quality.
The video for “Don’t Forget The Name” is set in a grungy room with writing all over the walls. There is one female accompaniment who gracefully drinks red wine while dancing on the bed behind Sweet. The most notable feature in the video is the fact that Sweet wears a cut out mask the whole time. He never shows his face. The anonymity of Sweet both makes the listener pay more attention to the music and adds an aura of mystery.
The video for “Don’t Forget The Name” was first published at the end of February this year. The video has around 25,000 views on YouTube. At the end of April, Sweet put his video on the famous WorldStarHipHop.com and today, the video has a little over seven million views on the website. The hype is just beginning for this rapper. Sweet Da Kid even has the backing off legendary producer Salaam Remi on his new label under Sony Music.
What’s next for Sweet Da Kid? He says,
A LOT... MORE MUSIC, MORE VISUALS, ALL THINGS.
So it is highly recommended to check out his music and once you do … DON’T FORGET THE NAME.
