Next generation Lincoln Navigator to drop V8 in favor of Ecoboost V6

Left Lane news announced earlier yesterday (March 12, 2013) that they have confirmed reports from Lincoln that the next generation Lincoln Navigator (as well as the Ford Expedition) will ditch there V8 mainstays in favor of Ecoboost V6. The current V6 ecoboost pumps out an impressive 360hp and 380 lbs-ft of torque ( as compared to the current V8 with only 310 hp and 365 lbs-ft torque).

This comes as good news to Lincoln faithfuls as with the demise of Mercury from Ford Motor Company as well as a push from many critics and journalists for a new and innovative Lincoln, this shows FoMoCo’s commitment to its struggling luxury brand.

Ever since the recession hit and gas prices have been steadily rising, the Navigator has seen better days in terms of sales numbers. When the Navigator first went on sale in 1998, Lincoln sold 43,859 units. Last year Lincoln only sold 8371 units. A substantial amount, but nowhere near its glory days.

Along with a whole suite of new engines, Ford is also planning a major redesign of the exterior as well. Some say this current generation Navigator already has styling two generations to old. Whatever styling direction this Navigator takes, it has to be close to a game changer for this full size luxury SUV to survive.
