A lot of excitement has surrounded the idea of being able to upgrade certain titles to their next-gen versions. However, Kotaku had a talk with Activision, EA and Ubisoft and has discovered that your single-player progress will be non-transferable. This may not deter a number of gamers from upgrading. Many buy the game strictly because they are attracted to the multiplayer action.
Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4's multiplayer progress will be transferable from current to next-gen. It's unclear if Assassin's Creed IV multiplayer progress will be transferred from one console to the other.
Five games have been confirmed to be eligible for the PS3 to PS4 upgrade:
- Watch Dogs
- Assassin's Creed IV
- Battlefield 4
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- NBA 2K14 (UK only)
It will cost $9.99 for consumers who purchase the PS3 versions on disc will receive a code that can be redeemed from the PlayStation Store. After the upgrade they will have to insert the PS3 disc into their PS4 in order to play the game, just as they would have if still using the PS3 version.
PlayStation's next-gen console will become available in North America on November 15.
