It's that time of year again. The point where people settle down their playing of the most recent "Call of Duty" game, and start looking towards the news of the next "Call of Duty" game.
Late last year rumors came out that the next game would be "Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 4", but nothing was confirmed. Of course going with that title would cause some confusion, as it's very close in name to "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare." It's easy to see confused parents in GameStop already.
However nothing's been confirmed besides a new game is on the way. During the latest earnings call from Activision (which took place today), CFO Dennis Durkin confirmed the next game in the series is already on the way.
"The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation, and we expect the new 'Call of Duty' game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher," said Durkin.
No details about what month, what title, and what systems the game would launch on were given. There's no doubt the game will launch on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii U. Even with Sony and Microsoft set to launch new consoles, unless they get the consoles out by the end of the year, there's a slim chance the games will make the jump.
It's not impossible however, "Call of Duty 2" helped launch the Xbox 360, so the next game in the series could come out and then get ported to the next gen consoles. Chances are however that the new systems won't launch until 2014, but that's up in the air just as much as what the next COD game will be.
With E3 being just around the corner (in June), chances are the first news of the next COD game will come out then along with word of new consoles. Until then, there's plenty left to do online with "Black Ops 2."
