Roberta Flack is a Grammy® award-winning singer and pianist known for hits like “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” and “Killing Me Softly With His Song.” Flack’s blend of jazz, pop, R&B, and folk music has won her four Grammy® Awards and an American Music Award for achievements such as, Record of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance, and Favorite Female Artist (Soul/R&B).
Flack was the first to win the Grammy® Award for Record of the Year two consecutive times for, “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” in 1973 and “Killing Me Softly” in 1974. She remains the only solo artist, aside from U2 in 2001 and 2002 to have accomplished this feat.
Since 1969, Flack has recorded 16 albums, solo or duet. She has sung duets with the late Donny Hathaway and Peabo Bryson, recording two albums with each one of them. Flack’s most recent album, Let it Be Roberta, released in February 2012, is an album of Beatles covers including “Hey Jude” and “Let it Be.”
Flack’s music has been covered by a wide variety of acclaimed artists such as, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Johnny Cash, Beyonce, Carly Simon, and Lauryn Hill. Her music has also been featured on a myriad of movies and television shows such as, The Pursuit of Happyness, Boogie Nights, Valerie, Guiding Light, and the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past.
