The setting for the next Assassin’s Creed game has long been hinted at but screenshots which leaked on Wednesday seem to put an end to speculation. While some believed Assassin’s Creed 5 could be set in Russia, the new screenshots clearly show scenery known to be in Paris.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that the entire story will have a Parisian feel but the screenshots seem to hint most of this Assassin’s Creed will indeed be in the city of light.
Ubisoft has not come out and said for certain that Paris is the new setting. It seems likely that a marketing campaign for Assassin’s Creed 5 is about to ramp up, with these images already out there.
What we do seem to know, despite the location is the name. Several different photos have popped up with Assassin’s Creed: Unity emblazoned across the middle. The same source who leaked the photos has also provided details that have been ruled as legit by Kotaku and its staff.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be set during the time of the French Revolution and is actually one of two AC games set to be released later this year.
The French-centric game is said to be slated for Xbox One and the PS4, while the second game will be hitting the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.
That approach alone is something that no other studios are giving much credence. Ubisoft is looking to hit all markets by releasing Assassin’s Creed games for specific platforms in the same year.
Inside sources claim the main character of this title is named Arno and will see adventures taking place from 1789 to 1799. Along the way, Arno will meet plenty of important historical figures all set in the super dangerous world Assassin’s Creed is well known for in the video game universe.
Along with figuring out the setting and the main character, the Assassin’s Creed screenshots showed off what could be a brand new control function. Several of the shots show moves called Parkour Up and Parkour Down.
Assassin’s Creed Unity could be a revolutionary in changing the way gamers ascend and descend quickly and that might be enough to win a place in many players’ hearts.
The French locale in Unity still allows for the possibility that a Russian themed game to be the other, current gen console game. That Assassin’s Creed game has been rumored to be centered around Russian history.
