Next@19th delves into the many facets of Miami’s diversity with Alejandra Czarny, a local Argentinean and Jewish folksinger who with Alan Reyna on percussion, Alberto Miranda on bass and guest pianist Dr. Alan Mason will perform for Next@19 a musical event that is bringing Jewish culture and its people together through artistic performances.
For this event, Next@19th invited Dr. Alan Mason, an Associate Professor of Music at Barry University who along the group of artists is going to perform songs that capture Czarny's South American and Jewish roots in a singular acoustic style.
“As an arts organization, we think of ‘Moving Jewish Culture Forward’ as a culturally layered experience,” said Jenni Person, Director of Next@19th.
“Music is an amazingly universal platform that allows us to combine many genres, and gives the listener the opportunity to create his or her own personal relationship with the sounds that touch them the most,” she added.
On stage for more than 20 years, Czarny has recorded two CDs with Yiddish songs “Under the White Stars” and “Songs about Songs” which include both traditional and original compositions.
Performing several of her own inspired pieces by Latin American rhythms in Spanish the artist aims to showcase her rich background as a musician, radio host and music therapist in Buenos Aires and also her experience as Music Director at the Temple Sinai in Hollywood, Florida.
Next@19th was founded in July 2010 to engage South Florida’s diverse community in fresh culture, learning and spiritual experience through a Jewish lens.
Producing original programming, the organization will host a range of events and activities. This 2011 – 2012 season promises celebrations of music, literary arts, visual art, education and spirituality as well as dynamic projects in partnership with the Jewish Film Festival, the Jewish Museum of Florida and O Miami.
Refreshments for Czarny's Next@19th’s event will be provided by Signature Guava Rugelach Cocktail with L’Chaim Vodka and delectable Guava Rugalach pastries.
