As the Sandy Hook Elementary school reopens, students now have to travel an additional 6 miles to attend classes. To help lessen the burden of another change, the classrooms of a building that was once called Chalk Hill Middle School are being recreated to look like the old class rooms of the former school building, down to wall hangings and furniture placements. This small gesture can make a big difference in the lives of the little ones as they try to get back to life after the tragedy, as familiar surroundings will help to alleviate fears and anxieties. In addition to this school authorities are expected to bring golden retrievers to the school campus for emotional support to the kids (golden retrievers are said to make people smile and help give comfort).
These two gestures are sure to help bring comfort to the kids and families, however as the days past by and things go back to some kind of normalcy do not forget to tell your kids you love them every day. Take nothing for granted and nurture not only their minds but their hearts, teach them violence is not the answer and that you are there for them. Hold them close and as parents love yourself and your spouse as well. Remember kids learn by what they see you do, a lot more than what you say.
