Fans of Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series have anticipated the theatrical release of ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ since Clare announced that Unique Features had optioned the film rights back in 2009. Now major news outlets are also recognizing the Harald Zwart directed project as anticipation builds for the film's August 23, 2013 debut. Many sources are reporting ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ as being a top anticipated film for this year.
‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ topped Film Thrasher’s list for “Most Anticipated Films of 2013.” Film Thrasher refers to the film as being, “the one film out of the many I truly believe will become "the next Twilight"… due to it's similar fan base and because author Cassandra Clare is so close to the film. It feels like her vision will stay true and that's what we all want out of a book to film.”
‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ made USA Today’s list for “10 Things That Will Excite in 2013.” USA Today says, “If the success of the books-turned-movies Twilight and The Hunger Games proved anything, it's the cross-generational appeal of fare initially aimed principally at tweens. Hollywood delivers more tween-book-based drama next year.” The news source mentions Clare’s The Mortal Instruments and Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia’s Beautiful Creatures, which also hits theaters this year.
E! Online listed ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ among their “Movies to be Excited About in 2013.” They featured the beautiful picture we’ve seen of Clary (Lily Collins) running along the streets of NYC. The image gives preview to one of many action sequences that Collins will bring to the screen along with Clary’s emotional roller coaster throughout the film.
CNN recognized ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ in its list of “The Biggest, Buzziest Movies of 2013.” It was once again mentioned along with Beautiful Creatures.
Teen.com listed ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ among their “13 Movies We’re Excited For in 2013.” The site describes the film as, “Are you ready for your next fave YA book to movie adaptation? In 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones', Lily Collins stars as a young girl named Clary who, unbeknownst to her, has a connection to supernatural demons, and must fight them for the good of mankind. It also stars Twilight Saga‘s Jamie Campbell Bower (who started dating Lily after they met on set of this movie!)”
And it’s not just the film getting buzz. Two Mortal Instruments stars Jamie Campbell Bower and Aidan Turner made Herald Sun’s “Top Acting Talent to Watch in 2013” list. Here is how they described our favorite shadowhunter and werewolf.
AIDAN TURNER
Age: 29
From: Ireland
What: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
Turner will steal the hot dwarf limelight from Richard Armitage when he brings a little romance to the Hobbit trilogy in The Desolation of Smaug - his Kili making eyes at Evangeline Lilly's elf Tauriel.
Best known until now as a vampire in BBC TV series Being Human, Turner will turn werewolf for The Mortal Instruments.
JAMIE CAMPBELL BOWER
Age: 24
From: London
What: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
Three Twilights, two Potters and seducing an older woman in Anonymous. He's also a part-time rocker and model.
Now Bower's first leading man test comes with The Mortal Instruments, in which he broods and battles while romancing Lily Collins (he must have done OK - the pair have hooked up in real life).
2013 is certainly shaping up to be the year of shadowhunter’s as the hopeful franchise premieres this August 23, 2013. If a success the studio has said they’d consider filming the rest of the franchise back-to-back promising fans years of seeing The Mortal Instruments films.
