  • Darwin Singleton of WPMI-TV's news department substituted for his colleague Pat Greenwood as one of the news presenters for WPMI-TV's local morning news program ("Local 15 Today") today since Pat Greenwood was in New Orleans, Louisiana to represent the athletics department at the University of South Alabama in Mobile at an event in which members of various news agencies could meet members of the collegiate football teams in the Sun Belt Conference, including members of the team from the University of South Alabama (Darwin Singleton was expected to take's Pat Greenwood position on the morning news program permanently on the Thursday of August 1st due to Pat Greenwood's plan to leave the position in order to devote more time to his positions at the university). Pat Greenwood was still able to be a part of the news program today, though, via telephone as part of a live report about the event.
  • WALA-TV's local entertainment and lifestyle program ("Studio 10") was put on hold for a few minutes this past Monday, July 21st (from 9:38 a.m. to 9:41 a.m.), in order for WALA-TV to broadcast live video of Barack Obama, the president of the United States, holding a ceremony to announce his executive orders banning discrimination against federal employees based on their sexual orientations and gender identifications, even though Chasity Byrd, one of the hosts for the program, had said it was going to be a news conference about the airplane that crashed in the country of Ukraine last Thursday, July 17th, since there was an advance notice about the president planning to hold such a news conference this past Monday. Afterwards Joe Emer, the other host of the program, said it was not a news conference about the airplane and said his station would still "break" into regular programming to broadcast such a news conference (WALA-TV used the FOX Broadcasting Company's special network programming about the news conference between 10:15 a.m. and 10:25 a.m. rather than video from a separate source like the video of the ceremony).
