Intoxicating, though it may seem, to those who wish for a Catholicism with much less morality, Mercy without Truth is like visiting the Physician who not only has no medicine to give you, but has also forgotten all his, or her, medical-school lessons. Healing, therefore, relies on the intent of the Physician, the authenticity of their healing power, the rules of medical healing, and the sick and injured person's ability to discern the Physician from the quack.
While the world, and the media 'press' for salvation without morality, Christ, and His Church, offer healing within the Merciful Justice of the Crucified and Risen Savior.
"I, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received... through... one Body and one Spirit,
as you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all..."
The world, which seeks for healing and happiness and salvation, through the Catholic Church, deems it necessary (for the preservation of a secular psychological self-perception in individual liberty, which is really licentiousness), to dictate to the Pope the terms of His Ministry to the world. The world directs the Pope--through the manipulation of his words--to spread the gospel of 'women's reproductive rights,' where unborn boys and girls have no rights; to spread the gospel of 'free love,' where marriage is not in God's design, but in the lust and romance of men and women. And though the Pope will certainly not accept this, very many will never come to the knowledge of what he truly teaches--through the demonic power of propaganda. Yet, despite the disunity, and disingenuous spirit, of the world, in the chaos of passion and lust, the Catholic Church remains the One united M*A*S*H unit for the salvation of lost souls through One Spirit, One Lord, one faith, and one baptism.
"...And he gave some as Apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the Body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ." Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-13
Catholics don't claim individual superiority to other persons, for, as St. Augustine described in the City of God, the soul of the saint is not born of nationality or ethnicity or even religious affiliation, but in the acknowledgment of Truth, and the hunger for both Justice and Mercy. But, without the Church, and without Revelation, how can anyone hope to seek like this?
"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day pours out the word to day, and night to night imparts knowledge." Psalm 19:2-5
Those who seek for salvation without God's Will, even if they were born on Coconut Island, isolated from all religion and Revelation, prove out their unfaithfulness to Justice and Truth, and lose all salvation. And this is true of those who pervert the Pope's words for a progressive, ideological end. For God has written His Truth in the Universe in natural theology, which is the Truth of God spray-painted all over Creation. God, moreover, has written His Law on the heart, and in the conscience, of men and women in all times and in all places through the Natural Law which speaks to us of right and wrong. And let's not forget the Holy Spirit, who blows where it will!
"The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, 'Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?' He heard this and said, 'Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.'” Matthew 9:9-13
The Pope, therefore, does not reach out to sinners as Pharisees do. He does not start with moral precepts, but with the open arms of Love. The precepts, however, never vanish, but gain the strength from above in Justice expressed in Mercy. For this is how the Crucified and Risen Physician has always healed. Before demanding a moral response, Jesus first dies for us in Love. For morality is not the Way to heaven. Love is! Morality is more a Loving YES! to the Savior who died for us when we least deserved it. Morality, therefore, is the true authenticator of Living faith.
So, dear progressive and media elite, next time you seek to share the Pope's message, remember that Truth is both Mercy and Justice, and in seeking to separate these two vital components of salvation, you re-Crucify the Lord in the original sin of Pride.
