Owner Mark Nicola has closed his Angelo's Pizza location at 205 East 14th Street. Nicola decided not to renew his lease in favor of searching for a more suitable location to open a new restaurant. He stated on the Angelo's Pizza Facebook page just a few hours ago that "we have made an offer on a great location for a full service restaurant and bar in Urbandale and are in the process of figuring out the logistics for the grease receptor." Nicola's West Des Moines Angelo's location at 1310 Grand Avenue will continue to operate as normal.
Baru 66's David Baruthio has been a busy man. Baruthio took over the restaurant in the Des Moines Arts Center, which re-opened today as Baru at the Art Center. The menu will consist of items like an Heirloom Tomato Salad ($9), a La Quercia Melt ($12), a Confit Duck Leg ($16), and a Petit Charcuterie plate ($14). The restaurant will focus on fresh, seasonal dishes, and the menu will offer gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan dishes.
Chef Baruthio is not stopping there, however. He also has a new pasta restaurant in the works at 860 1st Street in West Des Moines. The location was formerly home to Papa Lacona's. There has been no announcement yet on a name for the restaurant or a timetable for its opening.
Finally, Gusto Pizza Company opened its second location earlier this month at 8950 University Avenue in West Des Moines. The restaurant offers a menu similar to its flagship location at 1905 Ingersoll. Speaking of the menu, Gusto Pizza also recently announced a partnership with Sweet Binney’s and Sweet Rewards Gluten Free Bakery to provide desserts for the two restaurants.
