San Jose Jazz has announced more of the talent lined up for its 25th anniversary bash, set for August 8-10 at Plaza de César Chavez Park in downtown San Jose.
The names include DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown aka Erykah Badu; Kris Bowers; Ledisi; Motéma Music Showcase with Pedrito Martinez Group featuring Ariacne Trujillo, Marc Cary Focus Trio, and Charnett Moffett and Jana Herzen, Stones Throw Records Showcase, David Sanborn with Joey Defrancesco, Warren Wolf and Gene Lake, Monty Alexander and the Harlem-Kingston Express, Nicole Henry and Orchestra, Christian Tamburr Quintet, Wally Schnalle's Idiot Fish, The Bad Five Plays the Music of Roy Hargrove, Crossing Borders featuring Kristen Strom and Jennifer Scott, Sista Monica, BeaufunK with Michael Jeffries, Pearl Alley Band, Marta Lledo Quartet, Geoff Gallante Trio, Dixie Dominus, JC Smith Band with Maxx Cabello Jr. and Tia Carroll, and Rhythmtown-Jive Marching Brass.



Speaking of festivals, single-day Arena tickets are now on sale for September’s 57th annual Monterey Jazz Festival. Also you can catch the young performers who comprise the festival’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra on July 20 at Yoshi’s in Oakland. 
The lineup follows below. I am happy to note that along with all the great California talent there are a couple of players from Livingston, N.J., the town wherein I — along with Jason Alexander, Chelsea Handler and Chris Christie — grew up.
