News: Alison Levy of IMG Fashion leaves for Net-A-Porter

It was announced yesterday that Alison Levy, the Public Relations Manager at IMG Fashion (they are in charge of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week), will be stepping over to online shopping giant Net-A-Porter as part of their PR team. In Ms. Levy's email, she named 5 people who would be filling her shoes to run New York Fashion Week's showings of the autumn/winter 2011 collections. The shows will still go on at Lincoln Center.

This comes after a year of fashion industry moves that left everyone wondering which way was up. Stefano Tonchi jumped to W. Sally Singer left Vogue to cover Tonchi's position at the New york Times' T Magazine. Carine Roitfeld is leaving French Vogue at the end of January (but not to worry, her stylish stamp will be all over the mag until March). And todays breaking news was that Interview Magazine has named Miguel Enamorando as their new Fashion Director. The person he's replacing, Karla Martinez, will be joining W.

Fashion is a magical land where beauty and practicality don't always mix, but at the end of the day it's also a business. Magazines get new personnell so that fresh ideas can come to the fore and shake up what may have become too staid and settled. Think of Anna Wintour tearing into American Vogue in 1988, or Diana Vreeland slowly becoming Empress of Harper's Bazaar in a 26 year reign. Anna brought in celebrities to add glamour and relatability to her covers, while Diana discovered Veruschka, Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, and Dynel hair. One day we had gigantic glamazon Supermodels, and the next we had tiny waif Kate Moss. Beauty is change, or sometimes change is the beginning of the end.

When anyone in New York loses a job (be it model, PR person, editor, or designer), there's a massive rush as people people re-adjust themselves on the ladder. It will be interesting to see what further changes happen as we get closer to Fashion Week.
