TMZ reported on Sunday that Michael Strahan was blindsided about the announcement of his breakup with Nicole Murphy coming out just one day before his enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Sources close to Strahan and Murphy say the split has been a long time coming and the engagement had been broken off several weeks ago, but Strahan had no idea the announcement would come on Friday, a day before he entered the NFL Hall of Fame.
Fans and friends of Strahan think Murphy or someone close to her was trying to ruin the biggest moment of his career. This was very unfortunate, but Strahan took the high road and did not allow the news affect his celebratory weekend with his family, friends and fellow Hall of Famers.
The highlight of Strahan's football career could have been overshadowed by the broken engagement, but Strahan didn't let that happen. According to TMZ Strahan said during his induction speech, "This has been the greatest weekend of my life.”
On Monday's "Live! with Kelly and Michael," Strahan shared pictures of his historical weekend as well as taking viewers behind the scene to see what happened before, during and after the enshrinement ceremony.
The former Giants defensive end and host of "Live! with Kelly and Michael" might have been blindsided with the announcement just one day before his enshrinement ceremony; however, there was no indication that he was unhappy. He was the last one of the seven Hall of Famer to speak at the ceremony on Saturday. His powerful speech was 34 minutes long. He thanked family, friends, and fans for their support over the years. Even though he was engaged to Murphy for five years, her name was not mentioned at all.
It is most unfortunate that when a person googles Strahan's name to find out about his enshrinement, links about his breakup show up. The New York Daily News mentioned the two events in the same sentence, "He’ll be enshrined — but not engaged."
The announcement about the breakup indeed was a clear indication of bad timing.
