Rough Point, tobacco heiress, Doris Duke estate, will be the site of the 3rd Annual Doggy Fashion Show on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, RI, Sept 15. The fund-raiser, sponsored by pet boutique, Wag Nation on William Street, will feature locals and their dogs, dressed by area merchants to benefit the Newport Restoration Foundation (NRF).
There is a $10 admission fee, grounds open at 5 pm, dog fashion show begins at 6 pm. Dog treats and a cash bar will be made available for participants. Tickets are available online.
Rough Point, located at the end of Bellevue Avenue in Newport, is the former mansion of the famous "poor little rich girl", and is the showcase of NRF-held properties. There are 83 houses and buildings maintained by NRF, which Doris Duke began in 1968 "with the express purpose of preserving, interpreting, and maintaining landscape and objects reflecting Aquidneck Island’s 18th- and 19th- century architectural culture."
Doris Duke was a renowned collector of decorative and fine arts from around the world. Her magnificent collections are available to the public at the Newport Restoration Foundation’s museums.
NRF offers educational programs, guided tours of Foundation properties including the Windmill at Prescott Farm, walking tours of Jewish Newport, colonial cooking demonstrations, garden tours, and annual exhibitions of Doris Duke's collections of art, couture, and furniture at Whitehorne House and the Doris Duke mansion, Rough Point, which offers open tours from April through November 5th every year.
