For the 105th year, Newport Beach will be offering its Christmas Boat Parade, an event famous not only in the Southland, but throughout the United states. The parade, which runs in the evenings from December 18th to December 22nd , is a boating and waterfront extravaganza almost beyond description.

Over 100 boats will be officially entered in the parade. These boats, both large and small, will be festively decorated with holiday light and sound entertainment. The 14 mile parade route, meandering all over Newport Harbor, will be filled not only with the official entries, but with up to 300 other vessels also decorated in holiday lights.

Sponsored jointly by the Commodores Club of the Newport Harbor Chamber of Commerce and the City of Newport Beach, the parade is recognized as one of the biggest in the country. The range and variety of boats in the water, official and unofficial, runs from single person kayaks and Standup Paddleboards to luxury charter yachts topping 200 feet.

Adding to the splendor of the holiday season, businesses and homes along Newport Harbor’s shorelines are also fully decked out with holiday lights and music. Prizes are awarded for both boats and shoreline decorating. These decorations light the Harbor up in every direction.

The parade kicks off on December 18th, with the official entries getting ready to embark on the three hour tour of the harbor. At 6:30 PM on the 18th there is a fabulous fireworks show to mark the beginning of the parade. On the 22nd, another fireworks display will be shot off, marking the parade’s end.

The Newport Parade has been called one of the 10 Ten Holiday Happenings in the US. If you have not yet seen Newport’s Holiday Parade, you need to go down to the harbor this year and see it. Dress warmly, go early (at least one hour before the start) and have a great time watching opulence on the water.
