Well that didn’t take long! Right on the heel of her June 21 wedding and subsequent first kiss with Derick Dillard, “19 Kids and Counting” star Jill Duggar Dillard is expecting her first baby. On Wednesday, People broke the happy news of the sudden expansion of the supersize family.
The newlywed wife had reportedly already taken several pregnancy tests that had come back negative, but her sisters urged her to take another one during a recent visit to her parent’s house.
“My sisters were asking if I was pregnant and I'm like 'nooo' and they're like 'Well, mom has pregnancy tests upstairs and you could be pregnant so you should take one!'" the 23-year-old mom-to-be revealed in the article. Her husband called the whole experience “surreal.”
Proud grandpa Jim Bob Duggar said that his daughter and her husband shared the baby news with everyone just one month after their wedding date. "Everyone was clapping and cheering,” he said. “And we were in shock, too."
The baby is due in March, and while it will be her first, Jill is actually a trained midwife who has assisted on more than 70 births.
In an interview with ABC News shortly after her engagement was announced, Jill Dillard said she and her hubby planned to follow in her parents’ footsteps when it comes to baby making.“Both of us want as many kids as God will give us and we've talked about adoption," she said. "My parents have kept popping them out so we'll see how [our] fertility is!"
Apparently the couple's fertility is just fine. And with any luck, Jill Dillard’s new baby will have a cousin close in age. Dillard’s sister, Jessa Duggar, recently announced here engagement, and she and fiancé Ben Seewald have already talked about their own plans for a big family.
In April, Jessa told People, “We both want to have a big family. We are talking about our goals and the future with family. We have both talked about adoption and want to adopt, too."
While the Duggar family’s next big event will likely be a baby shower, Jill Dillard’s wedding hasn’t even been shown on the clan’s reality show yet. The gala event – 1000 guests in all—will be featured on the new season of “19 Kids and Counting” when it debuts on Sept. 2 on TLC.
