Each brand or company has been in search for ways to differentiate themselves on social media. They all battle to have the largest presence and engagement levels. Newcastle Brown Ale decided to come up with a new campaign that is paying people to follow them on Twitter. The payout may not be high for each fan, but it has grabbed the attention of new followers.
Newcastle Brown Ale is pledging to pay the next 50,000 Twitter followers (new followers only) $1. The social media campaign started yesterday and ends June 30, 2014, or when they reach 50,000 new followers. To join this brewer in their quest for new Twitter fans, visit www.follownewcastleontwitter.com. Their handle is @Newcastle.
The reasoning behind this campaign was simple. Newcastle Brown Ale told AdWeek that, “We really do want 50,000 more Twitter followers.” Their Facebook page has a little over 900k likes. However, their Twitter page has a little over 17k followers.
It is smart for the brewer to look for ways to increase their social media following. However, will this attempt find them a new loyal fan base? It may or may not help, but they will get what they wanted – new followers.
