Newark Airport terminal locked down after security breach

The Transportation Security Administration said a terminal at Newark Liberty International Airport was locked down Sunday night after a man walked though the wrong side of a checkpoint.

TSA spokeswoman Anne Davis said police are seeking the man, who walked from the public side to the secure side without undergoing the screening process. Davis also said authorities are unsure whether the man was once on the secure side and went back, or if he never went through screening. Authorities were reviewing video from cameras in the terminal.

Everyone who had reached the secure area after going through checkpoints was moved back to the public area to be re-screened, according to Davis. No flights were allowed to leave from Terminal C Sunday evening due to the security breach, she said.

The incident resulted in several lengthy delays, affecting both arrivals and departures, and mainly affected Continental Airlines flights. Continental is the airport's largest tenant.
