New ‘Yoshi’ Wii U title borrows from ‘Kirby’s Epic Yarn’ (Photos)

Nintendo confirmed the existence of a new game based on Yoshi during a Nintendo Direct broadcast Wednesday but it’s not the Yoshi many were expecting. “Yarn Yoshi” is coming to the Wii U from the makers of “Kirby’s Epic Yarn”.

“Yarn Yoshi” for the Wii U uses the same fanciful yarn and textile art style as “Kirby’s Epic Yarn” for the Wii but with all the HD graphics and other bells and whistles available with the new console.

A Wii U Yoshi title was previously rumored to be “Yoshi Land” following a listing on a retailer’s website and a listing in a Miiverse debug menu.

Going in the direction of “Kirby’s Epic Yarn” was unexpected but could work. The yarn based fable was very well received when it was released in to the Wii in 2012. It was praised for its charming take on the classic platform formula but was knocked for a lack of challenge and longevity.

A release window for “Yarn Yoshi” was not revealed by Nintendo.
