New Yorkers celebrate New York wine in March

If New York winemakers have anything to do with it, "New York Drinks New York” would be how we all describe March in The Big Apple. Restaurant and wine stores in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens are offering us the opportunity to see what grows in our own backyards.

In Brooklyn Terroir Park Slope (March 19) and Seersucker (March 20) are hosting wine dinners and offering special limited-release wines; Sample is offering flights of Channing Daughters wines all month as well.

A wide variety of retailers are offering free tastings throughout the month. Here’s a schedule. Retailers offering multiple tastings throughout the month include Absolute Wines (Astoria), Astor Wines & Spirits, Bowery & Vine (Brooklyn), Brooklyn Wine Exchange (Brooklyn), Chelsea Wine Vault, Columbus Wines & Spirits, Smith & Vine (Brooklyn), Union Square Wines & Spirits, Vino Fine Wines & Spirits, Vintage Grape Wines & Spirits.

The highlight of the month is the NY Drinks NY Grand Tasting on March 18 at Astor Center from 6 to 8 pm. Over 200 wines will be presented by 40 wineries from the Long Island, Hudson River, Finger Lakes, Niagara Escarpment, Lake Erie and Thousand Islands regions.

Complementing the wines will be a selection of all-New York cheeses, charcuterie and hors d'oeuvres provided by the New York Wine & Culinary Center based in the Finger Lakes. The consumer tasting, including all food and drink, costs only $35, with tickets available at www.nydrinksny.com/tasting until they are sold out.
