A Naples, N.Y. woman found herself in hot water after she lied to shelter officials about a puppy who she wanted to surrender.
According to Saturday's YNN News, 53-year-old Catherine Anthony claimed that the puppy, a nine-week-old Jack Russell terrier, was a sickly stray who she found.
According to the story, the Humane Society had officials arrest Anthony after they examined the pup and determined that the pup was in good health. It appears that the puppy had been received as a gift, rather than picked up as a sickly stray.
The bizarre aspects of this story are arrest and charge for making a false written statement.
Unfortunately, people surrender pets to shelters across the nation for any number of reasons - everything from stray, moving, baby on the way to the more unbelievable "does not match my decor."
Though most animal lovers would like to see these people face criminal charges, seldom, if ever, does it happen.
It seems that in this particular case, one woman will have more than a guilty conscience to deal with following her attempt to rid herself of her "gift."
