A Carmel, N.Y., woman was arrested for allegedly starving her elderly dog to the point of death, reported Friday's Hudson Valley Reporter.

Authorities arrested 26-year-old Kathryn DeStefano for the death of a 15-year-old dog named "Suzy," who died after being taken to an emergency veterinary clinic for care two weeks ago.

Suzy, a mixed-breed dog, was so emaciated that her bones were clearly visible on every portion of her skeletal body.

According to the Putnam County SPCA, Suzy was one of the most extreme cases of emaciation that they had ever witnessed; in addition to her wasted body, she had infected pressure sores as well as ulcers on her face and legs.

DeStefano was arrested on Thursday following a two week investigation by the Putnam County SPCA; she faces a charge of animal cruelty and will be arraigned in early January.
