According to a December 12 story reported by Fox 43 in Pennsylvania; the New York City Board of Health has passed a measure requiring flu shots for children. The mandate would apply to preschoolers and day care children enrolled in city-licensed preschools and day care centers.
The article goes on to say that the flu vaccine will be added to 7 other vaccines already required for children under 5.
In the November edition of the Science Daily; medical researchers debated the pros and cons of requiring all health care workers to be vaccinated annually. The study estimated that such a drastic step would mean thousands of fewer hospital visits. Opposition to the mandatory vaccinations argued that the vaccinations may not last for an entire year.
Does the decision violate the separation of church and state? One Christian didn't think so.
“According to the Holy Bible, people with leprosy were either required to stay away from the population; or to announce to all others that they were unclean. You or I then had a choice as to whether or not you got close to them or risked getting infected. We may be strong enough to withstand the flu; but somewhat like a senior citizen may not. This ruling is truly our chance to be our brother’s keeper.”
