At the West Village eatery Alta, the staff said a pastry chef was infected with hepatitis during a trip to Mexico and he was still making pastries and may have infected the restaurant. New York’s health department told about 150 people who also ate at the restaurant between March 22 and April 2 to get vaccinated for hepatitis.
There are so many good restaurants in the city and the Health Departments does its best to keep them clean and updated with proper health codes for the customers. It’s a shame one careless worker would take that chance. Hepatitis A is caused by a virus and transmission occurs by the fecal-oral route.
Symptoms include: fever, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, myalgia, and malaise. Jaundice and dark colored urine develop at the onset, within a few days time. The virus gets ingested and takes up residence in the gastrointestinal tract and then moves into the liver.
HAV can be detectable 5-10 days before the onset of symptoms when you get to the doctor as soon as you get word you may have been infected.
The restaurant pastry chef was infected with Hepatits A
Its estimated at least 450 people ate the dessert during the dates and they are trying to get the word out for their customers to go to a doctor or clinic immediately. Hepatitis A breakouts are uncommon in the Untied States due to proper sanitation standards in place. Transmission happens by direct contact with an HAV infected person or by HAV contaminated food or water. Would you visit a restaurant again after possibly being infected with Hepatits A?
Manager Manny Solano said the restaurant is completely safe to eat at now, and is back open for business.
