New York Pride Parade : Glamazons Float down Fifth

The Annual Gay Pride march was held in New York on June 29th, 2014. The march is held to honor one of the most important events in the history of gay & human rights; the Stonewall Riots. The massive flashy parade we see today is very unlike the first march. As marchers pass the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village a special acknowledgement of respect is made; dancing gets wild and posing becomes intensely animated.
American society is slowly evolving into an age of tolerance for alternative lifestyles. Many of the younger participants in the parade today are unaware of the history of discrimination and struggles the gay community has endured in the past. Gay Rights activist and actress Laverne Cox from the hit series Orange is the New Black was a Grand Marshall.Actor Jonathan Groff was also Grand Marshall .
The eagerly awaited logo float sailed through with glamazon drag queen superstars, Bianca Del Rio winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race and runners up Adore Delano, Ben de la Crème and Courtney Act. New York politicians were present including Mayor DeBlasio, State senator Bill Perkins, and Governor Andrew Cuomo. Over a million people attend the New York Pride parade.
