A video of alleged dog abuse in Rochester, N.Y., has gone viral on the internet, spurring a cruelty investigation and the creation of a petition to remove the dog from her home, reported Monday's Rochester Homepage.
A concerned neighbor took the video, which appears to show a German shepherd being blasted, for an extended period of time, with water from a hose, as well as being struck by what looks to be a rake.
Outrage over the content of the video quickly spread via social media and on Friday, authorities visited the home to question the dog's owner. However, the dog, presumed to be named "Princess," currently remains in the custody of her owner.
A petition calling for the dog's removal from the home has been created and currently there are nearly 4,500 signatures; click here to read and sign.
Removing the dog from the home requires certain steps, and investigators are currently working to make that happen.
Investigator Reno DiDomenico said:
Unfortunately animals are property in New York State. We have to go through the same judicial process to remove the dog that you would in any Fourth Amendment procedure,"
