New York Knicks trade rumors have the team interested in acquiring point guard Luke Ridnour. A Knicks trade for another point guard seems a bit odd, though, especially with Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd, and Iman Shumpert already on the roster. According to a report from Wednesday (Feb. 13), the Knicks have indeed expressed interest to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
While Ridnour could certainly provide the Knicks' roster with even more depth for the second half, it's questionable what the team would be willing to give up in a trade. If it is something like a second round pick in one of the next two drafts, that might not be a bad price for someone who could push the ball and shoot with a high percentage from three-point range. Adding another point guard could even give the team the ability to press the ball more often on defense.
Other than working to acquire another draft pick, it is also unclear why the Timberwolves would want to trade Luke Ridnour to the Knicks unless the team is looking to make a salary dump. Ridnour has one more year left on his contract and is due $4.32 million next season. It's possible that Minnesota is simply trying to get out of that deal and hoping that the Knicks want depth. These New York Knicks trade rumors could possibly help both teams, but only a minute amount.
So far this season, Ridnour is averaging 31.1 minutes, 12.3 points, and 3.9 assists per game splitting time between the shooting guard and point guard positions in Minnesota.
