Rex Ryan and the New York Jets have been going through a rough week. It’s so bad that they signed Graham Harrell to the roster early Wednesday morning. Harrell was recently cut by the Green Bay Packers, and three days later on August 28, he finds another job in the league. Hopefully for the Jets, this works out well, yet it’s hard to see Graham Harrell making an impact this season.
In a vacuum, this is not a problem, but Harrell lost his back up job to Vince Young. The same Vince Young that couldn’t find another whiff from any other NFL suitors for almost a year. Once he was cut by the Bills, pundits were wondering if his career was officially over. So you’re telling me Harrell couldn’t beat out this guy, but can get another chance that fast.
Either Vince Young was blackballed out of the league for awhile, or the Jets are making a huge mistake. There’s still a chance that Vince Young doesn’t make the Green Bay Packers once final cuts come. What are the chances that another team will pick him up before the season starts?
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Jets might keep five quarterbacks to start the season. In addition to Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith, the Jets also have Matt Sims and Greg McE;roy vying for a back up job. Maybe the Jets can play multiple quarterbacks every game.
The Jets may have put themselves in a situation to play Graham Harrell some in Thursday’s final preseason game. It’s not likely, but anything is possible in New York.
