Tavares had a hat trick and rookie Ryan Strome finally notched his first goal of the season. It was Strome’s 11th game played. The 2011 first-round draft pick had managed to tally three assists but was scoreless after getting called up last month. Strome was sensational during his brief stint in the minors. It was a power-play goal and the assists came courtesy of superstars Thomas Vanek and Tavares in the second period. Strome got a chance on the first team power play unit because Kyle Okposo was out for the birth of a child.

12 different players got on the score sheet. Casey Cizikas, Calvin de Haan, Andrew MacDonald, and Vanek each had two assists on the night.

Jamie Benn, Erik Cole, and Valeri Nichushkin scored for the Stars.

Islanders goalie Kevin Poulin finished the game after Evgeni Nabokov left the game with an injury.

The Islanders visit Toronto tonight for a 7 p.m. matchup.
