Josh Bailey, Kyle Okposo and John Tavares (game-winner) scored for the Islanders for the 3-2 win at home at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y.
The team sits in third place in the new Metropolitan division in this young season and will face the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at home.
They host another Canadian team Tuesday night, the Vancouver Canucks, and their new head coach, John Tortorella. The disputatious coach makes his first return visit to the New York area since leaving the New York Rangers and taking over coaching duties in Vancouver during the off-season.
The Canucks will bring superstar identical twin brothers Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin with them in a contest that should boast plenty of offense. Henrik has 10 points on the season and Daniel has 8. Meanwhile Tavares is once again near the top of the heap. The Isles captain currently has 4 goals and 5 assists in just seven games. The Islanders’ Michael Grabner (2G, 6A) and Frans Nielsen (3G, 4A) aren’t far behind.
