The New York Islanders continue to lose and the Anaheim Ducks continue to win. The red-hot Ducks spoiled the Islanders two-goal third period lead last night and won 5-3 during their match in Uniondale, New York. It was the teams’ eighth-straight win and it sets their franchise record. It also moved them into the number one spot in the entire league in the standings.
It was another third period collapse for the home team and another deflating loss for the home crowd. Thomas Vanek had a pair of goals for the Islanders and Frans Nielsen the other.
Ryan Getzlaf, the Ducks’ point-leader coming into the game, added four more with a hat trick and an assist. He’s third on the pains leaderboard. Corey Perry, the other top star for the team, had three assists on the night to help climb up the ranks to seventh.
The Islanders travel to Detroit to play the Red Wings and then get a four-day Christmas break. They will host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, Dec. 28 and then hit the road for two games.
