Everything seemed to be going so well until the New York Islanders, up 2-0 late in the game Tuesday, gave up two quick goals to the Tampa Lightning. The Islanders would ultimately lose in a shoot-out and come away with just one point at a crucial time in the season. It was a familiar script for a team that continues to give up late game leads.
Valtteri Filppula, who had both Lightning goals in regulation, scored in the shoot-out along with Nikita Kucherov. For the Islanders it was Frans Nielsen with the lone goal in the shoot-out session. Nielsen and Kyle Okposo scored for the Isles in regulation.
The Islanders take on their cross-river New York rival, the New York Rangers on Friday night in Manhattan and return home Saturday for a night-time match against the red-hot Anaheim Ducks.
