The New York Islanders downed the Washington Capitals yesterday afternoon at home by the score of 5-2. John Tavares scored twice for the Islanders to keep his goal-scoring surge going. Josh Bailey, Casey Cizikas, and Frans Nielsen also scored.
The Isles are unbeaten in the month of March and have a five game point streak going (3-0-2). They play the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight a 7 p.m. , their first road game in seven.
The two goals were Tavares’ 99th and 100th goals of his career. He now has 16 goals on the year and is tied for third with James Neal among all NHL players.
The Islanders sit just outside of a playoff spot but are within striking distance of several teams including the Jets, Rangers, and Devils. The Rangers won their game against the Capitals today.
