New York Governor Andrew Cuomo vows to decriminalize marijuana

(D) Andrew Cuomo, the 56th Governor of New York, gave his 2013 State of the State speech on the evening of Jan. 9 where he called to end the prohibition on marijuana and to ends its criminalization once and for all.

The governor has long been an advocate of legalizing the naturally growing plant. With the recent ruling of unconstitutionality against the "Stop and Frisk" policy in New York City, Cuomo decided that the time was right to aggressive push forwarded with his new policy initiatives.

The governor offered rousing words, reported by wnyc.org, on marijuana criminalization, "It's not fair, and it's not right! It must end, and it must end now." by wnyc.org.

Cuomo is asking that all private citizens be allowed to carry 15 grams of marijuana at any given time. If New York does pass pro-marijuana legislation, it very well could have a domino effect around the country causing other states to lift their restrictions as well.
