New York Film Critics Circle - A New York Tradition

Did you know that twenty years before the Academy Awards began giving Oscars for foreign films, the NYFCC was recognizing films from other countries that displayed excellence? 

There is a rich history with the New York Film Critics Circle, and many filmmakers and actors respect it's opinions with a deep rooted understanding. New York is such an important location for film history, and the NYFCC are keeping history alive in the area today.

It is important to understand this organization because it has done so much for the industry. Membership is very exclusive and prestigious, you can either be invited or apply for membership. 

The NYFCC have already released their awards for this year. Here are some of the honors they have bestowed:

Best Picture - The Artist

Best Director - Michael Hazanavicious (The Artist)

Best Screenplay - Moneyball

Best Actress - Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady)

Best Actor - Brad Pitt (Money Ball)

Best Non-Fiction Film - Cave of Forgotten Dreams

Best Foreign Film - A Seperation
