New York Fashion Week officially begins tomorrow but a full day's line up of shows begins today including Organic by John Patrick, Tia Cibani, DKNY Men's, and the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection. The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection show is a people's favorite. This year, the Jenner ladies, Savannah Guthrie, Gabby Douglas, and Toni Braxton are just a few celebrity names expected to take the runway.
Which trends can we expect to evolve on the fall 2013 runway and which designers will steer the direction of the season's major trends. The excitement and anticipation of the week's shows - Feb. 7 through Feb. 14 - has already begun. Who will be showing? Who will be taking their show on the road? ...And the battle of the glossies - Wall Street Journal's WSJ or New York Times' T Magazine? The reorganization of the editorial heads has all eyes on these two luxury inserts.
Betsy Johnson returns to the tent at Lincoln Center as well as b.Michael, Diane von Furstenberg, and Michael Kors. Alexander Wang is working on two collections this season as he takes the reigns at Balenciaga - will his namesake suffer?
In blogger news, Bryan Boy will be collaborating with high end furrier Adrienne Landau on a collection of unisex accessories for fall 2013, the blogger's first collaboration.
So, what can we expect this season? Opulence, opulence, and more opulence. More is more. After seasons of baroque, damask, and embellishments to stun, we can expect New York's cool view on urban opulence. When we talk opulence, we can expect a ton of Russian references. Keep an eye on Misha Nonoo, Pamella Roland, and Clover Canyon. Rachel Roy, "modern opulence"; Behnaz Saraphour, "artificial beauty"; and Michelle Smith, "luxurious layers" gives us a clue on the expected climate of the fall 2013 season.
