New York Fashion Week F/W 2013: Betsey Johnson skips out for ‘Betsey and Lulu'

New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013 will miss designer Betsey Johnson’s signature cartwheel in February. According to a Jan. 21 New York Magazine report, Johnson will take this season off to focus on brand expansion.

The designer who is gearing up for her reality television show, “Betsey and Lulu” with daughter Lulu Johnson, released an official statement on Jan. 21, “The world of Betsey Johnson continues to thrive,” says the press release. “After a very successful SS13, Betsey will be taking the FW13 season off to focus on her brand expansion, which includes a breadth of new initiatives such as a dress launch, a new fragrance and a reality show.”

A no-show at New York Fashion Week does not mean there will no runway sightings of the flashy designer. The press release continues, “Do not worry. Betsey may not be strutting her stuff down the runway in the tents this season, but she will be cartwheeling through Lincoln Center at an event for her new reality series, 'The Betsey and Lulu Show.' ”

In addition to working on her own ventures, the designer is reportedly assisting her daughter Lulu with her new Lulu and Allison fashion line. Lulu, who is collaborating with her friend Allison McClellen says the line is “definitely going to have a Betsey aesthetic, but we did tone things down and make them more modern. It's a line for women who still want to be hip, sexy and cool.”

The “Betsey and Lulu” reality television show is scheduled to air on the Style network in Spring 2013.
